What are the Factors to Consider in Choosing a Keyword for Your Blog?

There are several factors to consider when choosing a keyword to be used for one's blog. In this article, I will highlight three factors one should keep in check to be able to select the most appropriate keyword.

1. Search volume

The number of people actively searching online using a particular keyword is the first factor you have to check. This will determine if there will be a significant number of targeted audiences being able to visit your site coming from search engines like Google.

If people are rarely searching for that keyword, then you'll know your potential traffic from the use of that keyword on your blog won't be much.

You do have to consider that you must get a significant amount of traffic for your blog to profit.

2. The competition

We've determined that a particular keyword has a decent amount of search volume, now let's look at the second factor in choosing a keyword -- the competition.

What is the possibility that our blog will be shown on the first few pages of a search engine's result page when an audience does a keyword search?

We have to admit the fact that most people only goes as far as the third page of the search result page. If your blog isn't listed there, chances are, your traffic coming from a search engine wouldn't be significant.

We have to take into consideration that we are competing against other bloggers and websites for the use of a particular keyword to drive traffic.

3. Cost of the keyword

Yes, a keyword does have a price tag. This is the third factor we have to look at to be able to choose a keyword.

When you monetize your blog with an affiliate marketer, they show relevant ads on your blog. To ensure the relevance of those ads, they'll look into the keywords you've used on your blog content.

So basically, the keyword content on your blog will determine which ad will be shown.

If it's a pay per click program, you'll generate an income when your audience clicks on the ads shown on your blog. The affiliate marketer may pay you an amount ranging from a few cents to hundreds of dollar depending on the ads clicked.
