What your Birth Order reveals about your Personality
What your Birth Order reveals about your Personality
Birth order—the undying comparison amongst siblings in
terms of intelligence, beauty, sociability, maturity, and other traits is
annoying especially to those being compared. Why do people always like to
compare?
There have been many research done on this subject and
finally we have one that proves how futile this topic is.
Research by J Rohrer, B Egloff, and S Schmukle found no
convincing evidence that birth order affects personality. According to them:
“...we consistently found no birth-order effects on extraversion, emotional stability, agreeableness, conscientiousness, or imagination”
But they did manage to find something consistent. Firstborns, were associated with the highest intelligence among siblings. However,
the IQ difference is just 1.5
points...so that’s not much of a difference is it?
That doesn’t
mean to say that birth order is pointless. It’s just you can’t accurately
predict someone’s personality by knowing his/her birth order. There are other
factors that comes along with birth order that may somehow shape one's personality, like a child’s role in the family.
The responsibility bestow on firstborns. The rivalry among siblings. Who earns
parent’s favor. The spoiled brat!
So if you ask “What your birth order reveals about your
personality?” The answer is simple “Not much.”
