Why Telling your Goal is the key to Failure
Why Telling your Goal is the key to Failure
By: Arlene Gentallan
There's a good reason why keeping your mouth shut and acting on your goal is the best way to succeed.
Remember that awesome plan of yours you told everybody about, which never materialized? Turns out, you're not the only one.
Research by Gollwitzer, P. and colleagues revealed that when a person tells someone his/her goal (e.g., plans to become a psychologist) , that person is less likely to act on it. Why?
Telling someone your goal gives you a premature sense of accomplishment (as if you've already done it), killing motivation, making your future plan impossible.
There are things are easier said than done...
