What is the difference between i.e. and e.g.?
What is the difference between i.e. and e.g.?

i.e. and e.g., these two latin abbreviations are confusing if you don't know the difference. The use of i.e. and e.g in a sentence is not interchangeable so you have to spot the difference.

i.e. stands for for id est which means "that is"
Use the abbreviation i.e. to be specific or clarify your statement:

Have anyone saw the red fruit on the table (i.e., the apple).

e.g. stands for exempli gratia which means "for example"

Use the abbreviation e.g. to cite example:

You can bring me any fruit (e.g., apple, orange, mango).
